Jamshid Chalangi:
In tonight’s program of Behind the Headlines once again we will discuss the Saturday’s terrorist attack in Ahwaz and ask who would benefit from this action.
Who are the Al Ahvaziya separatist group and what role did they play in the attack, and if this terrorist attack in any way benefits our Arab Iranians?
And some analysts believe the Iranian regime itself is behind this action, as Rouhani can now plead victim at the UN.
Our guests tonight are political activists and commentators Navid Jamshidi and Yasin Ahwazi.
Navid Jamshidi:
What we are witnessing across Iran is that this tragic event has upset the Iranian nation and has had a negative effect on their minds.
Among the young people and political activists, they fear that this terrorist attack might lead to some other unpleasant events and cause a cycle of violence in the country as the regime’s officials have now adopted a harsh and revengeful language.
We have also seen a new round of mass arrests in the province of Khuzestan and some MPs are asking the judiciary to hang a few corrupt officials in public.
All in all the society is moving towards more violence and less tolerance and if you add the people’s economic problems to all these developments then you become very worried and concerned.
Some are suggesting that the Revolutionary Guard have been behind this action but I would neither confirm nor deny it.
Yasin Ahwazi:
The fact that only 20 minutes after this armed attack the regime blames this so-called Al Ahvaziya group for it and its leadership tells Rouhani that hemust portray Iran as a victim of terrorism in his UN speech, leaves us with no other assumption that the regime itself has been behind this horrific attack and we should have no doubt about it.
The Revolutionary Guard has a long history of having been engaged in terrorist actions and repressing the Iranian people and then blaming others for their own crimes.
Rouhani is in UN as the representative of a regime that is known as the biggest supporter of terrorism in the world.
The US ambassador at UN, Nikki Haley has been right to tell Rouhani that he needs to look in the mirror to find the culprit for this terrorist action.
A regime that names the major streets of Tehran after the world’s known terrorists and pride itself for it cannot plead victim of terrorism.
