Jamshid Chalangi:
In tonight’s program of Behind the Headlines we will look how the new US sanctions against Iran will affect the economic life of the nation.
Also, we will find out how the regime’s policies have led to the 40 years of animosities between Iran and the US.
Also, we will look at the anti-sanction campaign of a group of Iranian artists and why the same signatories do not show the same criticisms against the regime’s domestic policies.
Our guests to discuss these issues are Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh and Mohammad Nourizad.
Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:
Trump has rightly said that if his administration had not taken a tough stance against the Iranian regime, it had by now expanded its influence all across the Middle East.
The Iranian regime is now guilty of hampering efforts in Lebanon to form a stable government.
In Iraq the regime is pushing to put one of its stooges in the cabinet as the interior minister.
In Yemen it is supporting the Houthis with guns and money that are refusing toenter peace talks as long as they receive them from Tehran.
It is the same story for the Palestinian issue as the Islamic Jihad and other radical groups are refusing to accept Israel’s existence, which is the declared policy of the Iranian regime.
In short, the existence of this regime in Iran is a calamity for the entire region. It either has to be contained or destroyed in a war.
Naturally we do not want to see our lovely country is attacked and destroyed in another war.
But the campaign of our respected artists condemning the US sanctions has been launched by a group of people who would never be affected by the sanctions anyway and they have just posed as “heroes” which will be used by the regime in its propagandas.
These artists should have campaigned against the regime’s squandering of Iranian people’s wealth in its destructive regional policies, not against the US sanctions.
Mohammad Nourizad:
The truth of the matter is that this anti-sanctions campaign will not cut any ice in Iran under this regime and only plays into the hands of the regime.
These same artists did not even take part in the burial ceremony of Dr. Hackie who was murdered by the regime last week.
The regime itself is made up many ignorant people who act in the interest of foreign powers and would only allow certain people to come fore and launch this type of hallow camping so it could manipulate it for its own aims.
