Behind the Headlines/Nov 23

In tonight’s program of Behind the Headlines we will look at the continuation of the workers strike at the Haft Tapeh Sugar Factory and Ahwaz Steel Plan.

More members of Rouhani’s cabinet have admited the presence of money laundering in Iran as the regime’s factions are locked into a new round of friction and rivalry over the issue of joining the FATF convention, which would stop the regime from financing terror groups.

Why certain factions of the regime refuse to accept the presence of money laundering in Iran and why the regime has chosen to crack down on the workers rather than talk to them about their grievances?

Our guests tonight are Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh and Mr Hassan Shariatmadari.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

We are facing a regime in Iran that forty years after its establishment is still does not have legitimacy in the eyes of the majority of the Iranian people.

There have been occasions in the history of the Islamic republic regime when the Iranian people have given it an opportunity to gain this legitimacy and align itself with the wishes and demands of our people but instead of turning towards the people, the regime has begun its most barbaric policies towards the people.

The Ahwaz Steel Plant was a jewel in the crown of Iran’s heavy industries before the revolution but look at it state now and you will see it has been turnedinto a complete failure with thousands of laid off workers who have not received a penny for months.

Mr Hassan Shariatmadari:

All dictatorial regime look upon civil rights movements as a conspiracy againstthemselves and the Islamic republic is not an exception.
In the Constitution of the regime it is clearly stated that peaceful civil protests and rallies are free and democratic rights of the people, and the state must provide protection for them. But the regime is even afraid of two people get together to voice the demands.

This is a regime, which is even afraid of its own shadow because it feels the moment thousand of workers unite and become independent of its restrictions it will face a collapse.

The regime only favors those rallies and demonstrations that praise its leaders and policies and its supporters yell death to this and death to that!
