Behind the Headlines/Nov 19

Jamshid Chalangi:

In tonight’s program of Behind the Headlines we will look at the continuation of human rights violations in Iran on this Universal Children’s Day, in discussion with our guest Dr. Hassan Nayeb Hashem.

This day has been announced by the United Nation to protect the rights of children across the globe where children are subjected to sexual abuse or sleep rough on the streets due to poverty. In many countries they are abused as child labor and their human rights are violated with impunity.

We know that the UN may only issue resolutions and statements about this issue and does not have any executivepower.

The UNICEF is a huge bureaucratic organization but offers various supports for the rights of children across the world. However, millions of children still have no future in the world and are on the streets looking for a piece of bread to survive.

In Iran, only one kilometer distance away from Khamenei’s residence you could see children being sold to rich people from Arab countries and Turkey who have queued up to pay to middle men and take these children away from their families.

And yet no one in the government says a word about this shameful situation and smuggling of our children.

Mr. Zarif on the hand is a liar when he tells foreign media that there are no political prisoners in Iran and his master Mr Rouhani even claims that the sanctions have not had any effect on Iran’s economy!!
