In tonight’s program of Behind the Headlines from our London studios we will look at the demands of Iranian teachers and why the regime continues to reject them.
Also, we will look at the root causes of the current US sanctions on Iran as the country faces increasing economic hardship, with the poor and lower classessuffering most.
We will also ask why Iran’s celebrities refuse to condemn the regime’s nefarious actions but are fast to condemn the US sanctions.
Our guests tonight are Reza Taghizadeh and Mrs. Mitra Jashni of the Farashgard opposition group.
Reza Taghizadeh:
Years before the Islamic revolution Iran’s national radio station had a program that reported on accidents at workplace to teach our hardworking labour forces how to avoid them.
Our people are asking why the US is not imposing sanctions on Turkey, Saudi Arabia and does not threaten them with war and invasion?
The simple answer is that the regime that rules Iran has been at war with all Iran’s neighbours and the US and Israel and may be the entire world since its inception.
It is this warmongering and antagonistic policy that has brought all these sanctions onto our country and its people and as only yesterday the regime’s foreign minister Mr Zarif openly admitted, many mafia-type interest groups in the country actually benefit from these sanctions.
Mitra Jashni:
I grew up in Iran and studied at Tehran University but had to leave the country for a better future.
I remember that in our schools we used to learn how to shout the slogan of “Death To America” by being brain washed.
In every country of the world a foreign embassy is part of that particular country’s land. But in Iran the regimes followers seized the US embassy and burnt the American flag and wish death on American people.
It is no wonder that the US would one day react to keep its honour against allthese humiliating acts.
Therefore, the sanctions on Iran have been imposed by the Iranian regime, not the US.
