Jamshid Chalangi:
In tonight’s edition of Behind the Headlines our guests, nuclear physicist Dr Allahyar Kangarlu and political commentator Dr. Saeed Bashirtash will be sharing with us their expert view on:
Forty years of the rule of the Islamic republic regime and forty years of impoverishing the Iranian working class;
And
Benjamin Netanyahu’s expose of the regime’s secret nuclear activities;
But before that we will watch a video clip of the protest rallies of Iranian workers against the authorities on this the international day of workers
Dr Allahyar Kangarlu:
Working is an activity that relates individual humans to their society. Those who do not work or are unemployed are almost the prisoners of their own by losing their creativity and sense of accomplishment. Furthermore, they are not involved in the creation of wealth and do not improve their skills. Workers are at the frontline of the struggle for building a better world for all and this is directly related to their position as a united force for change.
In the developing countries the nature of working class and their tasks are different from those of the industrialized ones as they work under much harsher working condition with less rights and benefits.
The industrialized nations have achieved their social and technological progress through the toiling of their working class people.
However, sadly, in our country, the ruling regime has nothing to do with modernity and protection of the civil rights of its citizens and our working class people bear most of the brunt of the regime’s backward policies and its disregard for human rights.
Dr. Saeed Bashirtash:
Today’s protest demonstrations by the Iranian workers have been spontaneous, as the regime would never allow such rallies to take place.
Since its inception this regime has deceitfully claimed that its has come to power on the back of the hard working and impoverished masses but in reality has proved to be antagonistic towards their basic human rights.
The evidence is there to be seen. This regime has banned several workers unions and its agents have taken over the House of Workers. All officials responsible for workers affairs in Iran are from among the regime’s intelligence and security personnel and the Revolutionary Guard spies, so they could suppress and spy on the workers’ political activities, chief amongst them is the current minister for works and pension, Ali Rabiei.
The regime’s agents in the past have used the First of May demonstrations to turn them into pro-government rallies. However, the harsh economic conditions of the country would not allow them any more to resort to these hypocritical gestures and the Iranian working class now appears to be at the forefront of our people’s struggle for fundamental change in the country’s system of governance.
Dr Allahyar Kangarlu:
Human rights are a universal issue that has been denied of all Iranians regardless of their social class. The working class will lose its motivation to contribute to an economy where its benefits are reaped by a small minority of people.
The Islamic republic regime is also guilty of following a confrontational policy towards the US, which has resulted in so many years of so many economic sanctions against our nation and its economy.
Figures clearly show that as a result of this devastating policy Iran’s economy has suffered $124 trillion of cost over the last forty years.
Dr. Saeed Bashirtash:
In Belgium workers are fully insured for their health and safety and enjoy long periods of paid holidays.
