In tonight’s program of Behind the Headlines and on the anniversary of the death of ayatollah Khomeini we look at today’s situation of the country that he has left behind and who were the forces who helped his rise to absolute power. Our guest Mohammad Nourizad will help us find some answers to these questions.
We will also find out if as Mohammad Beheshti, one of the members of the inner circles of the regime has claimed, Iranian superstars like Malak Motiee and Fardine “voluntarily” left Iran’s cinema of the post-revolution, or indeed they were among the first victims of the mass purges of Iranian artists by the Khomeini’s religious regime.
But before all that we will watch a video clip about a memorial ceremony attended by Iranian officials at the mausoleum of Khomeini.
Jamshid Chalangi:
Mr. Nourizad, why do the followers of the Iranian regime use a foul language for expressing their politics and feelings, as seen in this video?
Mohammad Nourizad:
The type of insulting language that is used by the Basiji militias and some of the mullahs of Iran is the product of the supreme leader himself. Khamenei needs this aggressive attitude. He can put this Basiji in his place and silence him but he needs people like him to ward off his opponents.
Right now Ramin Hosseinpoor and his brother are being held in Sanandaj prison waiting to face executions at the end of the Ramadan. I believe his parents wish that Ramadan would not end at all. These young men’s father had fought in the Iran-Iraq war as a patriot and is just asking the authorities not to execute his children.
We visited the family to show our support to them but when we left their house we were questioned and beaten by the security forces.
The regime’s “wise men” have concluded that the execution of drug addicts and smugglers has failed to stop them and I only wish they would also agree that the execution of their political opponents is futile and only makes matters worse.
As for Khomeini, until two years ago I always refrained from criticizing him. But I can confidently say that all the calamities and problems of our people and country stems from him directly.
He was a simple mullah who did not know anything about the modern world and its affairs. He did not know what civil and urban life meant and had absolutely no connection or understanding of the many other cultures of the world. As such he did not recognize any civil rights for the citizens of Iran. He had lived in an illusion all his life and turned from a man who believed killing a fly is sinful to murdering thousands of innocent people with one order. He had once ordered the execution of a woman who had said in a TV interview that she was a fan of a Japanese film star!!
He was always manipulated by other people and believed he could run a modern society that he had inherited with the laws of 1400 years ago.
The mullah’s rule is based on spreading ignorance and illiteracy among the populations as a learned people will never accept their outdated and reactionary ideas.
However, our hope for a brighter future for Iran is now the power of our younger generations. They are the true owners of this country and they will make it free of the rule of the mullahs.
