Behind the Headlines/June 28

In tonight’s program we will look at the latest news of the continued tension between Iran and US as at the other side of the globe in Japan leaders of the G20 countries hold a conference on environment and farming issues, as well as discussing the current tension between Iran and US.

The Chinese leader has said that the Middle East is going through a dangerous phase and we will find out what interests his country has in the region.

We will also look at the statement of the 14 Iranian civil rights activists in which they have called for ayatollah Khamenei to resign.

Our guests to discuss these issues tonight are Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh and he Iran-Iraq war veteran Abdulrasoul Mortazavi.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

The truth about the Islamic republic regime is that it has always missed the opportunities to protect Iran’s interests and for that our nation has lost enormous human and material wealth and its position in the international community.

We had the chance to end the war with Iraq six years earlier but the regime continued it and at the end they had to drink the chalice of poison.

Even with the nuclear deal, Iran had been offered a much better deal four year earlier in 2013 but they had rejected it.

Today Mr Khamenei has taken a radical position and has rejected any negotiations and this had led to manymore US sanctions on Iran and on his own office too, which they do not know how to respond to it.

If you add the sanctioning of Mr Zarif to this then the picture becomes even more terrifying as all channels of diplomacy will be closed and no one know what would happen next.
