Behind the Headlines/January 30

In tonight’s program we will look at the fortieth anniversary of the Islamic revolution and find out what the religious regime has done to Iran and the Iranian people.

Also, what is the main objective of the Warsaw Conference organized by the US government and what should we expect from Mike Pompeo’s speech in there as both Iranian regime and its opposition forces are reacting to the forthcoming event.

Our guests tonight to discuss these issues are political commentator Dr. Abdulsattar Doshoki and Amir Hossein Etemadi of the opposition group Farashgard.

Abdulsattar Doshoki:

I have already expressed my opinion about this conference in an article and said that Mr Pompeo has said that the gathering’s objective is to find a permanent peace for the Middle East.

However, we have now raised the question that if more than 70 countries are sending their representatives to this conference then there should be some representation from the Iranian people too as the main theme of the conference will naturally deal with Iran.

As such we have written a letter to Mr Pompeo and the Polish government and asked them to explain this issue but so far we have not received any reply.

It is very important that us as Iranian opposition groups unite at this crucial time and act as one voice and tell the world about the aspirations of the Iranian people during this conference.

Amir Hossein Etemadi:

It would have been ideal if the Iranian opposition force could send a delegation to this conference too so the international community get to know and recognize them.

However, I can understand why the US government is not inviting any particular opposition group as others would quickly protest why they have not been invited.

The US government is facing this problem but at the end of the day the Iranian regime must change and we must tell Washington that you should not opt for a change in the regime’s behaviour.

That is why the US is refusing to invite any opposition group that calls for the change of regime in Iran. This should not stop us from organizing our own forces and continue our struggle to achieve this aim.
