Behind the Headlines/February 8

In tonight’s program we will look at the fortieth anniversary of the Islamic revolution and ask what consequences it has had for Iran and the Iranians and future awaits them with current regime in power in view of its international isolation.

Our guests tonight to discuss these issues are Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh and Hassan Shariatmadari.

Hassan Shariatmadari:

What has been named as the Islamic revolution and the regime that has come out of it are nothing but hatred, destruction, corruption, war and plundering of the Iranian people’s wealth and gagging any voice of dissent by jailing and executing people.

This regime has betrayed the Iranian people’s faith and religious beliefs and taking away their peace and security by following a vile ideology based on empty slogans of anti-America and Israel and has done no positive thing for the country in its 40 years of despotic rule.

The “Islamic awakening” that its leaders claim has done is nothing but religious extremism, wars and terrorism across the Islamic world.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

People like Hadad Adel used to work in the previous regime but changed their color and now present themselves as heroes to us. They must do so because they have benefitted from the disaster that the regime has brought onto our nation.

When cleric Yazdi says under the regime Iran has advanced 400 years he means his wealth has become 400 times more.

The mullahs who used to get a fiver for delivering s sermon are now Iran’s millionaires and the nation lives under poverty line.

We could have achieved all the objectives of the movement under the late Bakhtiar’s government but those who had a plot to destroy Iran did not allow it to succeed and have not only brought misery to Iran but also to the entire Middle East.
