Behind the Headlines/February 5

In tonight’s program we will look at the fortieth anniversary of the Islamic revolution and ask what future awaits Iran and its new generation as the country faces numerous detrimental challenges, when its oil minister Bijan Zanganeh admits how the main source of our nation’s revenue is drying up due to sanctions.

Our guests tonight to discuss these issues are commentator Hassan Etemadi and activist Shervan Fashandi.

Hassan Etemadi:

Sadly it is not possible to look at all the adverse consequences of the Islamic revolution but a quick comparison between what Iran was before it and what it is now can reveal the dimensions of the disaster that has fallen upon our country and its people as a result ofthat revolution.

Iran during the former regime could positively secure the stability and peace of the region through its sound foreign policy, but today the Islamic regime that has replaced it is the rouge player that has wrecked havoc in the Middle East and caused miseries for its populations.

Previously all major companies of the world were rushing to invest in Iran but today even the smallest firms refrain from investing in Iran’s energy sector despite all the capitulating concessions that the regime is offering them.

The main export of the regime has been chaos and terrorism for the last forty years and in short it is a disaster that has destroyed our country.

Shervan Fashandi:

Before the Iranians commit a national suicide through the Islamic revolution Iran had an economic growth for 15 continuous years, which was even ahead of the then South Korea and Turkey.

Now most of Iran’s manufacturing companies have either closed down or are on the verge of bankruptcy and the country has lost its role in determining the oil price in international markets.
Forty years ago we used to export more than 4 million barrels of oil per day, it is now less than one million.

The regime and its leaders openly admit that the revolution has not been for the better lives for the Iranians, but for the export of their vile ideology.
