Behind the Headlines/December 7

Jamshid Chalangi:

In tonight’s program we discuss the following news stories with our guests Dr Alireza Nourizadeh and Mousa Sharifi:

The continuation of protests at Haft Tapeh Sugar Factory as workers in Ilam petrochemical factory go on strike too for overdue salaries but the regime’s response to all these protests remain more repression and ignoring their demands.

On the anniversary of the tragedy of fire at Shinabad girls school we will find out what is going on in there.

In US the families of those American soldiers killed in Iraq by Iran regime’s roadside bombs are claiming hundreds of millions of dollars of damage from courts.

In Sweden representatives of the Yemeni government and the Houthi rebels are meeting to discuss a UN peace plan.

And on Sunday Arab leaders of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council are meeting to discuss the latest developments of the region.

Dr. Nourizadeh:

The factories that have now gone on strike in Iran were once the jewel in the crown of our heavy industries but due to corruption and mismanagement have either closed down after going bust or are losing profit every dingle day.

Mousa Sharifi:

This regime is the sworn enemy of the working class people. Forty years after the revolution the Iranian workers are not still allowed to have their own independent unions and are forced to accept associations that are run by the regime’s spies and ideological puppets.
