Behind the Headlines/August 3

Jamshid Chalangi:

In tonight’s program of Behind the Headlines:

Can the Islamic republic regime respond to the demands of the Iranian people?

Why prices keep going up in Iran?

Will Iran become a “second Syria” if the regime falls?

Our guests to discuss these topics tonight are Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh and former Iranian MP, Dr. Ghassem Shole Sadee.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

If we look at the slogans that people are chanting at the anti-regime demonstrations, we will notice that they are chosen very carefully to express their true feelings and demands.

Slogans like “Shame on You Khamenei” and “Leave Syria, Think of US”, mean that the people have no more hope in the regime being able to solve their problems and are rejecting it in its entirety so they could run the country themselves in the interest of the Iranian people.

In other words, the Iranian people have now reached the same conclusion that the late Dr. Bakhtiar had predicted that this regime is a religious dictatorship and in the pursuit of its ideological aims has destroyed our country and it does not matter which faction of it you belong to, as they are all the same when it comes to saving the regime from collapse.

Jamshid Chalangi:

It appears that the people of Shiraz are the most active in anti-regime protests.

Dr. Ghassem Shole Sadee:

Shiraz has always been the focal point of Iranian culture and politics. I had oncesaid that we need to find out why a mullah who used to live on meager means is now driven in a Mercedes Benz by a chauffeur.

Now this has become the slogan of the demonstrators in Shiraz and when they say, “the mullahs must get lost” they are opposing the plunder of their wealth by the corrupt religious leaders and we must praise their struggle and supporttheir demands.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

We are producing a documentary that concludes Iran is ruled by a gang of 820 people and the members of their families.

They are neither educated nor have any professional background but all of them are adept in stealing the wealth of the nation in whatever position they are.

You will not find such Kleptocracy ruling over any other country on the planet earth.

Dr. Ghassem Shole Sadee:

The reason for the existence of rampant corruption in Iran is that the justice system itself is corrupt. If anyone in the media or the Majles attempts to reveal a corruption, he or she would be rounded up by the order of the judiciary, while the same judiciary protects the thieves and corrupt people.

There is also this additional problem that the Revolutionary Guard are exempt from any financial accountability, while they run more than half of the country’s economy.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

We are paying the high price of the regime’s paranoia of anti-Americanism that we have seen in its hostage taking and killing of US soldiers across the Middle East.

If the Americans are offering to negotiate with Iran it is because they want to respect the international laws, something that the Islamic republic regime knows nothing of.
