Behind the Headlines/August 27

Jamshid Chalangi:

In tonight’s program of Behind the Headlines:

Mohammad Javad Zarif’s lies with a veneer of “diplomatic language”

Posthumous award of the US Congress to the late Mohammad Anwar Sadat of Egypt for his peace efforts

Staff of Imam Khomeini hospital have not received their salary for the last ten months

The passing of John McCain

The tragic death of four forest rangers in Marivan fire

And the humiliating $50m loan of EU to Iran

We discuss these topics with our guest, the member of Green Embassy Movement Mohammad Reza Haydari.

Jamshid Chalangi:

A number of ministers and top officials of the regime have been impeached or have resigned. Could these moves really solve the problems of Iran? If not, what is the responsibility of Khamenei himself in the current crisis?

Mohammad Reza Haydari:

The longer this regime stays in power the more the Iranian people realize that it is a corrupt and inefficient system that will never be able to solve their numerous problems. Cosmetic changes like impeachment of ministers will not end the problems of unemployment, rising prices, corruption and poverty and theonly practical solution is for the entire regime to change, as quite rightly been demanded by the people in their slogans during their recent uprisings.

The main priority of any government in office is to provide care and prosperity for the citizens of the country. However, sadly, the main priority of the Iranian regime is to expand its Shia ideology and revolution and anti-Americanism, which run contrary to the wishes of the Iranian people.

Basically, the Iranian regime has abandoned the Iranian people and acts as though it belongs to a different country and people.

The majority of the officials within the regime know very well that the main obstacle to any reform and progress in the country is Khamenei himself, butthey do not dare confess to this openly as they all want to keep their position.

Khamenei knows that the moment that he openly agrees to negotiations with the US hisregime will begin to melt down.

The Europeans are playing the card of “hardliners v moderates” to sustain the regime but Mike Pompeo has correctly said that this is all a game and to look for a moderate in this regime is like looking for a Unicorn!

In the meantime the regime is selling out the country to the Russians and Chinese to remain in power against the will of the Iranian people who want to see the back of it.
