Jamshid Chalangi:

The Caspian Sea and its shores is one of the most beautiful parts of the planet earth.

The leaders of the five states bordering this resource-rich Sea signed a deal on its legal status on Sunday in the Kazakhcity of Aktau.

The status of the Caspian Sea, which has been disputed since the collapse of the Soviet Union rendered obsolete agreements betweenTehran and Moscow, which had an equal 50-50 rights to the Sea’s resources and navigation routes.

However, the collapse of the Soviet Union renderedobsolete those agreements between Tehran and Moscow.

Russian leader Vladimir Putin, whose country was seen as driving the deal, said the convention had “epoch-making significance” and immediately called for more military cooperation between the countries on the Caspian.

While Hassan Rouhani has called the convention “a major document”, many Iranians as well as experts, including the Majles deputy Dr. Mahmoud Sadeghi have all warned that this document is nothing more than a capitulation of the regime to the Russians and their neo-colonialism.

In reality, Iran, who ended up with the smallest share of the sea under the terms of the convention, is viewed as a potential loser in the deal.

And it should come as no surprise as the religiousclique that rules Iran does not know much about national interest as their leader ayatollah Khomeini had clearly said that nationalism and efforts to secure one’s national interest is equal to blasphemy.

Meanwhile, the Chinese are ploughing the fish of the Persian Gulf to the extent that hundreds of Iranian fishermen have abandoned their traditional job and gone to major cities to work as street peddlers.

And all these selling out of Iran’s national interests are happening while the regime in Iran is concerned about the amount of hair that women are allowed to show through their headscarves!
