Behind the Headlines/April 19

Jamshid Chalangi:

We continue tonight’s program with looking at the arrival of the foreign militia forces into Iran amid the continuation of the flood disaster in major provinces of the country, an find out what is the real reason for the presence of these armed forces in Iran.

We put these questions to our guests of tonight, Dr Alireza Nourizadeh and Iraj Mesdaghi.

Dr Alireza Nourizadeh:

The regime’s decision to usher in these Iraqi militias into our country is the climax of its anti-Iran policies.

These armed men were thrown out of our motherland during the war with the Saddam’s army at the cost of the blood of hundreds of thousands of our people, and now are freely entering our country and raising the Iraqi flag over it.

The regime does not even care about its own constitution which forbids the presence of foreign armed groups on Iran’s territory as it is against our sovereignty.

During this flood disaster it has become evident that there is a rivalry between Khamenei’s household and Qassem Soleimani’s Quds forces.

Now that the Revolutionary Guards have been designated as a terrorist group Soleimani’s presence in Iraq and Syria has become dangerous for him and instead he has decided to bring his mercenary forces under his command inside Iran which he thinks is safer.

However, I think the reaction of our people to the unlawful presence of these armed foreign militias has shown that they are not welcome in our country and our national army also will not tolerate this humiliation that a group of foreign mercenaries claim to be the saviour of our nation.

Iraj Mesdaghi:

The truth of the matter is that unlike what they claim inside the country and some sections of the opposition in exile support this idea, the Revolutionary Guards are not part of Iran’s national armed forces.

They are an ideologically based armed organisation whose task is to protect the regime and sustain it in power with the help of their loyal members among other nationals from the Shia communities who are paid for this objective.

From its inception forty years ago the ruling regime in Iran has been against Iranian nationalism and democracy for our people.

Khomeini had clearly condemned these two issues as “anti-Islamic” and the Guards and Khamenei follow his standing too.

The regime is still after the idea of creating a Shia based nation of Islam by bringing these militias into Iran and at the same tell the US that it can always call upon its supporters in other countries of the region to join it in its anti-American policy.
