Behind the Headlines/April 12

Jamshid Chalangi:

In tonight’s program we will look at why US has designated the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a foreign terrorist organisation.

The Guards say that they have been involved in reconstruction of Iran after the war with Iraq and are protecting Iran’s borders. We will ask our guests Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh and Atta Houdashtian if the Revolutionary Guards are what they say they are.

We will also report on the latest news of the flood disaster in Iran.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

This flood disaster has also revealed the extent of the regime’s ignorance, as Khamenei, the man who claims to be the supreme leader of our country, had previously said that if he throws a handful of pure soil into water the flood will stop.

Now our nation can see for itself that all that the clerical regime has been preaching these last forty years have been baseless and lies and have resulted in calamities anddisasters for them.

I doubt if any one of the people who appear to be religious leaders in Iran have any real faith.

If we do not wake up to this reality and accept the huge responsibility that we all have to save our country from the hands of this regime, Iran will be destroyed.

In ten years time all our country’s wealth would be gone through the squandering by the regime whose officials have no interest in the future of Iran and the Iranians.

I think this devastating flood has been a wake up call for all of us and instead of giving in to its consequences we must rise up and take our country back.

Atta Houdashtian:

I think the question for every Iranian citizen wherever they may be is to make a comparison between what we were forty years ago and where we are now.

There have been revolutions in other countries too but at least they then focused on looking after the interests of their own people.

In Iran, since therevolution forty years ago, the regime has been busy looking after the interests of non-Iranian people in other countries, like Iraq and Syria.

It has been spending Iranian people’s wealth for the benefit of other nations and naturally our country has been left open and vulnerable to natural disasters because the regime has not been concerned about the wellbeing of our own people.
