Tonight we will find out how the rising cost of living and corruption in Iran is affecting the lives of the citizens as thecountry’s nuclear program has started again.
What would the sanctioning of Javad Zarif by USmean for the future the tension between Tehran and Washington?
In Iraq the opening ceremony of the West Asia Football Cup has caused controversy as women dancers performing in the event have been condemned by the country’s conservatives.
Our guests tonight to discuss these issues are Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh and Mr Shokrullah Masihpour who joins us from Iran.
Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:
About 50 years ago when the Iranian women enjoyed all their social rights the only other country of the Middle East was Lebanon whose women were present in many fields of social and economic activities.
I did watch the opening ceremony in Baghdad and I almost cried with joy to see how they respected the flag of their nation while gracefully dancing with the music of the violin and the spectators joined them in signing their national anthem.
However, the backward thinking people like Nouri Al Maleki have cried that this ceremony has been “an insult” and issued condemnations, which goes to show how they lack any credibility with the people of Iraq.
Even in Afghanistan these days women appear at football stadiums and sing and entertain people which is the complete opposite of what the reactionary rulers of Iran want for our women when they cannot event attend football stadiums as spectators.
And now we hear that in Saudi Arabia women havebeen allowed to travel abroad without the consent of their spouses, which is a great step forward for granting them their civil rights.
Shokrullah Masihpour:
We all remember that the first days after the revolution there was no talk of women having to wear hijab or losing their rights.
Ayatollah Khomeini had promised that he would respect women’s rights and hijab would not be mandatory but sadly he did not keep his promises and the entire course of the revolution was derailed and became prisoner of ideological objectives and today we see women are victims of acid attacks as well.
