We begin tonight’s edition of A Window to the Fatherland with Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh reading one of his poems from the book of his collected works.
Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:
We continue the program with talking to our special guest of every Thursday, Dr. Mohsen Sazegara, by asking him first what lies behind the threat of Majles deputies against Rouhani? Is he still thinking of succeeding Khamenei as the supreme leader?
Dr. Mohsen Sazegara:
No, I think Rouhani has been disqualified from ever becoming the next supreme leader because he has proved ineffective to manage the affairs of the country and had put all his eggs in the basket of the nuclear deal, which has met with its demise.
He no longer has any support from the public either and lacks the necessary state apparatus to run his government as Khamenei has seized them all.
At one juncture Rouhani had two choices; either he had to rely on the support of the people to face the failure of the nucleardeal and the new sanctions by pushing for his promised reforms and exposing the plots of the Revolutionary Guard and Khamenei’s office, or succumb to the pressure of the Deep State.
Rafsanjani had advised Rouhani to push for opening up Iran to the world by negotiating with the Americans over the issues of Iran’s ballistic missiles and regional matters. But instead Rouhani chose to follow Khamenei’s orders. At this moment of time Khamenei is running the affairs and has plans for his son Mujtaba to succeed him.
The regime has put in place a five-point plan to survive, which includes uniting all those who support it against those who call for its overthrow; crack down heavily on all types of dissent; find ways of circumventing the US sanctions; make deals with European countries and strengthening their position in the region through their proxies.
It is this planning and strategy that Khamenei was talking about when he said that his regime would only negotiate with the USwhen it is in a strong position.
Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:
Naturally the US is not going to remain idle and just watch that the regime will fulfill all these plans for itself and as we have seen in recent days American diplomats have been visiting Iraq, India and Japan to make sure that they would not take part in any such plans and would observe the US sanctions.
Further more, the Europeans are not entirely the servants of the regime in Tehran and once the November sanctions come into effect they will think twice before trying to bypass them.
Dr. Mohsen Sazegara:
You are quite right. These plans are only in the head of Khamenei and there are many unforeseen events awaiting the regime in the coming days.
Khamenei may delay the eventual fate of the regime, which is joining history, but he will not be able to change it.
As such, it is paramount important that Iranian freedom fighters and democratic forces unite to wage a civil protest to oust this regime with least threats to the sovereignty of our country and achieve a secular democracy for Iran.
