We begin tonight’s edition of A Window to the Fatherland with Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh reading one of his poems from the book of his collected works.
Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:
We continue tonight’s program with a discussion with our guests Dr. Hossein Lajevardi and Faramarz Forouzandeh about how best the Iranian opposition groups can take advantage of the international political climate to achieve their aims and objectives.
It must be said that Dr. Lajevardi has been instrumental in inviting Mr. Forouzandeh to join our debate tonight.
Faramarz Forouzandeh:
I am grateful to your invitation and Dr. Lajevardi’s unabated efforts for our country, which is going through a very crucial time. As one of the millions of Iranians I too have a responsibility towards solving its problems and I am glad that I can now make a humble contribution to the debates on IraneFarda TV in that respect.
However, we must avoid repeating what we have already said before and must now concentrate on finding realistic solutions to our country’s problems.
Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:
What do you think should be done for these problems that are quite known to all of us?
Faramarz Forouzandeh:
It is quite obvious that the US policy towards Iran has fundamentally changed. But the community of the Iranian opposition forces has been lagging behind and we do not know how they want to use the US help in achieving their aims. We must have a plan on the table for this.
Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:
But is it right to have a plan while the US might be planning to attack Iran?
Dr. Hossein Lajevardi:
I have always believed that the IraneFarda TV channel has been performing very professionally and that is why Mr. Forouzandeh has accepted to take part in this debate. He however speaks his mind and that must be welcomed in a democratic debate.
But as for receiving help from foreign powers, we must remain realistic and avoid falling into extreme conclusions.
We live in a world that its affairs are very much interconnected and there is absolutely no possibility of making a change in one’s country without receiving foreign support. This should not be interpreted as becoming a puppet of a foreign power. As long as the US government does not support the Islamic republic against the interests of the Iranian people, that would be sufficient for our struggle.
Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:
Do you think the Iranian society is ready for a major change?
Dr. Hossein Lajevardi:
I believe we have two Iranian societies, one is its young generation, and the other is its ethnic people. Our youths are crying for freedom and I do not see our ethnic Iranians being after parting from our country.
Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:
We heard in the news yesterday how the Obama administration had tried to illegally give Iranian regime secret access to the financial system of the United States by converting assets into dollar in Oman.
Faramarz Forouzandeh:
When I talk about the US change of policy on Iran I do not mean that our plan must be to become a puppet of the Americans. We must have a professional and workable plan that would lead the US to support our objectives.
Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:
Does this plan involve even talking to the Iranian regime?
Dr. Hossein Lajevardi:
Yes indeed, but we will only negotiate with them to end their rule with minimum cost to our people and country. We must aim for a future Iran minus this regime.
