We begin tonight’s edition of A Window to the Fatherland with Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh reading one of his poems from the book of his collected works.
Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:
We continue the program with looking at the interview of Seed Behbahani with Amir Yaghmaie, a former member of the Mujahedin Khalq Organisation, and later will report on the latest news of the Middle East region.
In the second part of the program we will talk to Houshang Kurdestani, a member of the National Front Party of Iran who would share with us his views about the current affairs of Iran.
We begin by asking him about the way the late Dr. Bakhtiar formed his government.
Houshang Kurdestani:
I was in the city of Rasht when the late Bakhtiar kindly phoned me and told me about the very dangerous situation that our country was in and that the Shah had accepted that the National Front should form a new government, headed by Dr. Sanjabi.
However I knew that this idea would be rejected by Kazem Hasibi and Dariush Forouhar, as they had been following the idea of the clerics coming to power under Khomeini’s leadership, as they thought the religious establishment will then easily hand over the political power to the secular and democratic forces!
They argued that during the Constitution Revolution the ayatollahs who took part in it left the scene and secular forces took over. But I told them that this time round our secular and democratic forces are easily leaving the scene and handing over the future of the country to the religious forces.
As for the issue of the US designating the Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist group, I believe they should have only confined this to the corrupt leaders of theGuards, as their lower ranks are our innocent fellow Iranians who could be part of a future national army.
Obviously the US has done this in protecting their own interests in the region but we can always benefit from this decision by the Trump administration in our struggle for freedom and democracy in Iran.
