A Window to the Fatherland/Dr. Nourizadeh/June 28

We begin tonight’s edition of A Window to the Fatherland with Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh reading one of his poems from the book of his collected works.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

I wrote this poem for the late Dr. Alikhani whopassed away this week. He was behind Iran’s economic success of the 1960s and now half a century later the Alibaba and forty thieves of Baghdad rule our country and as a result we have a bankrupted economy.

Today we have our dear and old colleague Mr Hassan Shariatmadari as our guest, or better said, as the host of this channel, to share with us his expert views about the latest news of Iran.

Last week the US sanctioned Khamenei’s office as well as Javad Zarif the foreign minister after Iran downed the US drone, which has now been established that a missile hit it 25 kilometers away from Iran’s waters inside international airspace.

Mr Hassan Shariatmadari:

I think Mr Trump has concluded that the only obstacle for Iran to enter a new round of negotiations with America is Mr Khamenei himself. This conclusion would have come from speaking direct to people inside the regime itself who have told him that without Khamenei’s agreement no talks can ever take place.

It is only natural for US to put pressure on Khamenei as it has effects on his political as well as religious authority and puts him in a difficult situation.

Further more, the sanction on Khamenei can be extended to all those organs and individuals who represent him inside and outside the country and their assets can be frozen as they all receive grants for their social, religious and cultural activities from the trust that holds between 95 to 200 billion dollars and it is under Mr Khamenei’s management and control.

By sanctioning the office of Mr Khamenei and Iran’s Foreign Minister the US is sending a message that either Iran should come forward for talks or if they want to choose other policies then it is up tothem.

Mr Khamenei has calculated that may be the bestpolicy at this stage for Iran is not to enter into any negotiations with the US and at the same time the Americans have now said that they too are not in arush.
