We begin tonight’s edition of A Window to the Fatherland with Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh reading one of his poems from the book of his collected works.
Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:
We continue the program with talking to our special guest of every Thursday, Dr. Mohsen Sazegara, for his views about news of Iran and the Middle East, by asking his opinion about the comments of Saeed Hajarian, a prominent reformist figure, who has claimed that foreign powers are after the break up of Iran.
Mohsen Sazegara:
I have read Hajarian’s article about his concern for the possible break up and partitioning of the land of Iran. Naturally all those who love our motherland and care for its people have always been concerned about this issue.
However, I remember once Hajarian and I went to visit Rafsanjani in his office and he said he agrees that no matter how you look at Iran, it is a unique country in terms of its multicultural and multi-religious composition with many ethnicpeople having lived alongside each other for very many centuries.
He then argued that only the clerical regime in Iran could hold this composition together and in unity.
But I told him that in fact the reverse was true as the single mindedness of the Shia establishment is the force that can divide our nation into different ethnic and religious peoples, now that they have all the political and economic powers of the country in their hands.
The real danger for the unity of our nation is in fact its ruling regime, which with its policies has taken our country to the brink of a break up into areas populated by dissatisfied people in almost all its provinces.
I must remind Hajarian that our history clearly shows that every time the land of Iran has broken up it has been ruled by despotic and ineffective rulers andgovernments who were unable to look after the interests of our nation.
Iran’s reformists had thought that they can implement reform within this establishment but history shows us that they failed and retreaded day after day. Many of them were sent to prison too.
So, we must tell them that if they are truly concerned about the break up and partitioning of Iran they must show their opposition to the system of governance that rules Iran and stifles our people’s aspirations for democracy and human rights.
Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:
I do not know why the reformists do not make their position clear on this issue and always dock it; either they are with the Iranian people or with the ruling regime.
