A Window to the Fatherland/Dr. Nourizadeh/July 26

We begin tonight’s edition of A Window to the Fatherland with Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh reading one of his poems from the book of his collected works.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

We continue the program with talking to our special guest Mr Hassan Shariatmadri, for his views about news of Iran and the Middle East.

Over the last three weeks with the emergence of the oil tankers standoff the Iran situation has entered a new phase. What is your Council for Power Transition in Iran’s take on the way things are playing out in the Persian Gulf area?

Mr Hassan Shariatmadri:

We have now had an election of our executive members inside Iran and they are writing up their manifesto and will later publish it officially. We might have a television program to introduce thismanifesto to the Iranian people so they get to know what we stand for and how they can join the movement. This could be done in a European capital.

In the meantime the group of 14 activists who have published their own open letter, which contains their demands for reforms, are continuing with their efforts and other groups and individuals are joining them.

Their letter calls for Khamenei’s resignation and a referendum in the country under the supervision of international bodies to change Iran’s constitution.

To make this a national demand one condition must be that all our opposition groups and individuals join to promote these objectives.

The activists inside Iran have clearly shown that they will not bow to pressure and crack down by the regime as both Misters Mahdavifar and Nourizad have been jailed and thankfully Mr Nourizad is now free and we hope Mahdavifar will be releases soon too.

We are talking to many other Iranian oppositiongroups to organize their protest activities and publicities in the direction of uniting the exiled communities with the activists inside Iran so we can finally move towards achieving democracy and civil society for Iran by forcing the regime to accept our demands with least human and resource costs.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

We have witnessed many experiences in our lifetime with regard to liberation movements, ranging from Vietnam and Argentine to Sudan and Algeria, where the ruling regimes have had no choice but to sit down and negotiate the terms to hand over their powers to new governments.

We must wait and see if Khamenei will be wise enough to accept this peaceful process under the influence of a handful of remaining rational and prudent Revolutionary Guards.
