We begin tonight’s edition of A Window to the Fatherland with Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh reading one of his poems from the book of his collected works.
Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:
We continue the program with talking to our special guest of every Thursday, Dr. Mohsen Sazegara, for his views about news of Iran and the Middle East.
It appears that many viewers have welcomed our debate of last week about the peaceful transition of power in Iran from the current regime and there is ground for uniting the exiled opposition forces with those inside the country. I wonder what you think about this?
Mohsen Sazegara:
The feedback that I have had from a close friend says that currently two forces are driving the Iranians towards a turning point.
One is the US president’s policy towards the regime and the other is the regime’s own policies. However, the only force that can truly bring about real change in Iran is the Iranian people themselves as both US and the regime can at anytime change their course.
The unity between Iranian opposition forces and activists inside and outside the country is one of the conditions for the democracy movement in Iran to succeed.
Our people need to realize that the end to their miserable life conditions and the despotism that they live under can only happen if and when they mobilize their scattered forces as it has happened in many other countries before.
Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:
I have also spoken with several friends inside Iran who agree that the open letter by the 14 civil rights activists is a good start for organizing this movement.
One other important point is that our Iranian Kurdish brothers and sisters who may have had radical views in the past have now softened their political stance and believe more in democracy and human rights rather than establishing socialist regimes.
They are also very nationalist and are not after the partition of our motherland or separation of the Kurdish regions from the rest of the country.
In another words, our ethnic peoples are now a major element in the formation of this democracy movement for Iran and its eventual success.
