A Window to the Fatherland/Dr. Nourizadeh/July 24

We begin tonight’s edition of A Window to the Fatherland with Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh reading one of his poems from the book of his collected works.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

Tonight we continue to speak to our special guest Mr Alireza Sasanian who used to work for Iran’s national broadcasting organization (IRIB) as one of their finance directors.

I quite like Dr. Mehdi Khazali for a number of reasons. Firstly, his father was one the most reactionary clerics in Iran and I hear Mehdi has now set up a new political party and helps a lot of needy people too.

Mehdi Khazali has remained loyal to his roots and profession as a doctor and would not sell them out to the ruling regime. However, sadly there are many lawyers in Iran today who have turned into businessmen and middlemen and are only in pursuit of money in their profession, which is supposed to be defending justice.

Mr Alireza Sasanian:

I have known Mehdi Khazali for more than two decades and regard him as my brother. He is a decent man and is independent of the so-called hardliners and reformist factions of the regime.

He has been arrested more than 12 times for his political activities and has already published more than 100 books. His publishing company has printed 3000 titles too.

Sadly the security organs of the regime have tried to stifle his sources of income to derive him into bankruptcy by farming him in bogus court cases.

Not many people my agree with his style of politics but Mehdi Khazali has chosen the path of civil disobedience and the ballot box to bring real socio-economic and political changes to Iran.

We too hope that his policy could bring change to our country but I very much doubt the ruling regime in Iran is capable of delivering any meaningful change to Iran.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

You mentioned that Ghalibaf has set up a group of people around him to present them as the government in waiting. But Khamenei has branded anyone who may attempt to enter talks with US as traitor.

Mr Alireza Sasanian:

Sadly nowadays the supreme leader is even suspicious of the very people who surround him and feels threatened by their motives. That is why in recent weeks we have seen several changes in the top leadership structure of the Revolutionary Guards.
