We begin tonight’s edition of A Window to the Fatherland with Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh reading one of his poems from the book of his collected works.
Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:
We continue the program with talking to our special guest of every Thursday, Dr. Mohsen Sazegara, for his views about the latest news of Iran and the region.
We begin by asking him why is that Iran’s left-wing organizations and activists have not changed their views and political outlooks that date back to three decades ago, despite the many social and political developments that Iran has gone through during the said period?
Dr. Mohsen Sazegara:
This is a very important debate as Iran faces many challenges for its future.
I have learnt from Dr Tahmasebi a phrase that in Iran we do not have political parties or groups, they are mainly political clans that are run on the principles of family interests.
This includes our monarchists, left-wingers, nationalists and even religious organizations.
It was the united front of these opposition groups that led to the downfall of the Shah’s regime but none had any idea or plan to bring democracy to Iran. All they did was cause havoc and take bloody revenge on the previous order under the pretext of revolutionary act.
The religious organizations were the most savage and brutal of these forces and murdered thousands of their opponents and purged all their allied political forces through executions and annihilation of them.
They even had no pity on the prisoners and the Mujaheddin Khalq and left-wing groups paid a very heavy price for these bloody purges.
We have come a long way since socialism and Marxism were the ideal of our young people and intellectuals and even the religiousgroups have lost some of their zeal and the way they look at the idea of a supreme leader dictating the policies of a country.
The hope is that after decades of bloodshed and failures we could manage to reconcile religion with politics and establish a liberaldemocracy for Iran. Although some groups like the Mujaheddin Of Islamic Revolution still live in the past.
