We begin tonight’s edition of A Window to the Fatherland with Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh reading one of his poems from the book of his collected works.
Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:
Today we have four birthdays of the dear singerDariush, the actors Ali Nassirian and Shahab Hosseini and the late Prof. Hashtroodi and legendary actor Fardine.
We respect and value our national personalities who have made the Iranian culture and unlike the Iranian regime’s leaders do not just mourn the deaths of unknown religious people who lived centuries ago to deceive the masses and sustain their corrupt power.
The Pope has now arrived for an historic trip to the UAE. His visit matters as the relations between the Vatican and the Islamic world has seen some turbulence in the recent years and many Christians havebeen forced to leave some Middle Eastern countries due to the rise of Islamic fundamentalism.
Sadly the emergence of the Islamic republic regime in our country has also contributed to this situation.
These days also mark the anniversary of the issuing of Khomeini’s fatwa for the killing of British writer Salman Rushdie.
In reality the curse of religious fundamentalism did not start with this fatwa in 1989, but in 1979 when the Khomeini regimecame to power in Iran and the Western intellectuals likened him with Gandhi.
The issue of hijab in Iran has once again surfaced and MP Ali Motahari has claimed that if there were to be a referendum on it, most Iranian women would accept it.
No Mr Motahari, you are wrong. For forty years you have been forcing our women to wear this symbol of their humiliation by your regime and our heroic women have rejected it.
You and people like you have been following a path opposite the true culture of the Iranian people all along and history will not be kind to you.
