A Window to the Fatherland/Dr. Nourizadeh/February 27

We begin tonight’s edition of A Window to the Fatherland with Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh reading one of his poems from the book of his collected works.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

In tonight’s program we will talk to our dear old friend and colleague Mohammad Reza Chaheed who would tell us about his new programs for the Nowruz season.

Mohammad Reza Chaheed:

I will have two special programs for the Nowruz celebrations. One of them is a reportage about the Qajar Museum when I visited it last summer. We also have some music programs from Mrs. Leyla Sabers’ concerts as well as a visit to the Louvre museum.

All these programs will be broadcast under the title of Under the Paris Sky on IraneFarda TV.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

The French politicians have loved Mohammad Javad Zarif. But his first love seems to have been Ms Mogherini. However, Barak Obama and John Kerry had also been among his admirers. Why do you think he had to resign?

Mohammad Reza Chaheed:

IRAN news agency had reported that a group of Iranian MPs had written a letter to Rouhani and have asked him to keep Zarif in his cabinet at any cost.

Rouhani has swiftly acted and done so. But imagine if a group of Iranian people write aletter to Mr Rouhani and beg him to release the political prisoners of the country or demand from him to do something about the daily price rises and widespread poverty among the population. Would he act equally fast?

When in the Islamic republic regime over the last forty years a foreign minister has been independent and made determining decision by himself?

Zarif has been bluffing with his resignation and the Iranian leadership knows it very wellthat the Trump administration has made it a mission for itself to change the regime in Tehran.

During this process opposition forces loyal to Prince Reza Pahlavi have a better chance of coming to power and inside Iran the reformists are putting their bet on Mr Zarif.

But how could Zarif and the reformists ever bring about democracy and secular rule for Iran when they have been in and out of power for forty years and follow a religious ideology.
