We begin to night’s program with Dr Alireza Nourizadeh reading one of his poems from his collected works.
Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:
We continue the program with paying tribute to the memory of Iran’s legendary film director the late Ali Hatami by playing a video clip about his masterpieces.
Then we speak to Dr Mohsen Sazegara, to find out his views about the re-emergence of Iran’s student movement on the country’s political stage.
Dr Mohsen Sazegara:
This week marked the anniversary of the 16th Azar, the Student Day in Iran and despite the crackdown on their movement, Iran’s activist students have been rallying across the country in support of the workers strikes in many key industries.
They have also been involved in clashes with pro-regime pressure groups but nevertheless the student movement in Iran has now started a news phase in its struggle against the regime.
If we notice, in their slogans the students have been slamming the regime and its leader Khamenei for squandering billions of dollars of the Iranian people’s wealth to instigate wars and trouble in the region.
They are telling him that his leadership has destroyed the country and it is time he listened to the demands and wishes of the people.
However, this regime will never reform and such demands are futile.
It had a chance 20 years ago to do so but Khamenei and his followers plotted and defeated that reform movement.
Dr. Nourizadeh:
We had the sad news of another Koolbar being shot dead by the Revolutionary Guard yesterday.
Dr Sazegara:
The same Revolutionary Guard that had set its prime responsibility to defend the country and its people has now turned into a killing machine of the Iranians.
