A Window to the Fatherland/Dr. Nourizadeh/August 31

We begin tonight’s edition of A Window to the Fatherland with Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh reading one of his poems from the book of his collected works.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

We continue the program with speaking with our special guest Dr. Mohsen Sazegara.

I began my talk tonight with reflecting on the speech of one of our fellow Iranians from the Baluchestan province who has been expressing his grievances about the appalling conditions in which thousands like him live. My question to Dr. Sazegara is why there are people in Iran like the members of the Mujaheddin of Islamic Revolution who are still loyal to this regime and cannot believe in an Iran without it?

Dr. Mohsen Sazegara:

I have indeed seen the comments of Mr. Tajzadeh of this group who has said that ayatollah Khamenei should feel obliged to justify his policies to the Assembly of Experts so his incorrect policies can be stopped for the interest of the people of Iran.

When I was imprisoned for writing a personal letter to ayatollah Khamenei my interrogators were telling me that I had offended him by bypassing the assembly.

I kept telling my interrogators that the problem is that the members of the assembly have never ever questioned any of Khamenei’s policies and why would they listen to my questions and hold him to account when all their members were obedient to him.

Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:

The Islamic Constitution has many shortcomings but has one article that if the Majles deputies have any integrity to defend the rights of the people they can summon the president to the Majles and question him about the way the supreme leader is conducting his duties.

Dr. Mohsen Sazegara:

That is correct, but Khamenei has a tactic that has been using since he became the supreme leader to maintain his despotic rule and that is that he always undermines the constitutional powers of the elected presidents.

He basically turns the presidents into obedientstooges for himself and discredits them among the public so that he could carry out his own policies behind the scene. And when these policies end in disaster for the nation he puts the blame on the governments, as we have seen in the case of the nuclear deal.

Khamenei tried to do this to Hashemi Rafsanjani too but he was a crafty politician and did not fully succumb to Khamenei’s plots.

But it appears that eventually Rafsanjani lost his life for his resistance to Khamenei!
