We begin tonight’s edition of A Window to the Fatherland with Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh reading one of his poems from the book of his collected works.
Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:
We will continue the program with a report from our senior correspondent Mohammad Reza Shaheed on Emanuel Macron’s visit to the US.
Then as with every Thursday, we will speak to our guest Dr. Mohsen Sazegara who will share with us his expert views on Macron-Trump meetings, Mohammad Javad Zarif’s interviews with American media, as well as Hassan Rouhani’s secret plan to succeed Khamenei.
Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:
How would you sump up Macron’s trip to US?
Dr. Mohsen Sazegara:
I believe France has always remained an old ally of the United States as a fellow member of the NATO. This relationship has become stronger in view of the UK’s exit from the EU.
The French are currently to some extent representing the European Union, especially when it comes to the talks about Iran and the nuclear deal as well as the international trade. Macron has clearly said that France would not leave this agreement but insists that the concerns of President Trump with regard to Iran’s ballistic missile program and its activities in the region must be addressed too.
The US is facing this dilemma that it does not want to exit the nuclear deal without having some kind of consent from its allies.
It would be interesting to see how Iran will be playing this card to its own advantage in the behind the scene negotiations with both parties. However, the best option for Tehran is to make some kind of compromise with the French, because the French energy giant TOTAL and Renault and Peugeot car makers have signed major contracts with Iran.
Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:
I believe Trump’s rhetoric is mainly to clam down the Israelis to avoid any direct confrontation between Tehran and Tel Aviv while his administration is engaged with North Koreans. He may actually delay his final decision on the nuclear deal to a later date. In any case all efforts should be directed at preventing the Russians to take advantage of the current situation.
Dr. Mohsen Sazegara:
All the Foreign Ministers of the Islamic republic regime are liars as seen in Zarif’s answers to the questions in his press conference.
He lies about the activities of the Quds Brigade, he lies about the regime’s support for the Hezbollah and the Houthis, he lies about the fact that the leaders of the Green Movement have been kept under house arrest for eight years by the direct orders of Khamenei and he denies that thousands of our young people are languishing in prisons for simply expressing their point of views.
As long as they yell “Death to Israel” and “Death to America” the US and EU will not relent their political and economic pressure on Iran. All the banks in the country are facing serious problems simply because the international banking system is run by the Jews.
Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:
What do you think about Rouhani’s secret plan to succeed Khamenei?
Dr. Mohsen Sazegara:
I believe Rouhani’s government has reached a complete impasse. I had never trusted him because he comes form the intelligence community of the regime but has managed to wear different hats depending on the situation.
Despite all the bribes and concessions that he has offered to the Revolutionary Guards he has not been able to gain their backing for his administration.
The only chance that he might have to survive is to have the support of the people, which he does not have at the moment.
The Guards have their own choice of a successor for Khamenei and he is Agha Mujtaba, Khamenei’s son. They are not going to wait for Rouhani.
Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:
What do you think about the discovery of the late Reza Shah’s body?
Dr. Mohsen Sazegara:
When Khalkhali began to destroy Reza Shah’s mausoleum, Khomeini fully supported his action. I read Prince Reza Pahlavi’s statement regarding this issue and agree with his right of demanding a marked resting place for Reza Shah’s body.
He is part of our history and every Iranian is responsible to preserve that history whether we agree or disagree with it.
Reza Shah saved our country from partition, annihilation and poverty and built a modern Iran. It is the duty of every Iranian to respect him and his legacy and as such keep his body safe to remind us all that what he did for Iran.
Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:
