Behind the Headlines/March 5

In tonight’s program from our London studios we will look at the social and economic plights of Iranian people forty years after the Islamic revolution.

We will try to find out what kind of country the Islamic republic regime took over forty years ago and how does it look like now.

And planning for the future of Iran, a new organization by the name of Qoqnous has now been launched in Washington, which intends to rebuild Iran from the ashes of the present country under the rule of the clerical regime.

We speak to our guests Dr Allahyar Kangarloo and Dr Namdar Baghaie who are both among the founding members of Qoqnous by asking them what their project wants to do now and in the future.

Dr Allahyar Kangarloo:

We have a country whose affairs have been at the center of public and international debate for the last forty years. At the same time it is our fatherland and has a long history and culture that are very dear to us and we must preserve them.

We believe in this day and age sciences play a major role in shaping the present and future of any nation and as such we intend to solve the numerous problems of Iran through rational and scientific ways based on civil institutes as the foundations of running a modern Iran.

Qoqnous is an independent and non-ideological entity and solely looks at the solving of our nation’s problems through civilized and scientific approach.

Dr Namdar Baghaie:

As you know, the environmental problems of Iran are immense and our country faces very serious water shortage and air pollution.

We need to find urgent solutions to these burnings issues and Qoqnous can offer scientific and workable solutions in that respect.

Sadly under the Islamic republic regime no serious attention has been made towards our country’s scientific community and our experts inside and outside the country have been ignored due to the regime’s ideological approach that means it only allows those who are aligned with its ideology and policies to operate.
