In tonight’s program we will look at the fortieth anniversary of the Islamic revolution and discuss what was happening at ayatollah Khomeini’s residence on these days for decades ago.
Also, we will ask if all the human rights abuses of the last forty years in Iran have been recorded properly and why the international community does not pay enough attention to crimes against humanity in Iran.
Our guests tonight to discuss these issues are Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh and Dr. Abdulkarim Lahiji.
Dr. Alireza Nourizadeh:
I was present on the night when the four top generals of the Shah were executed. Khalkhali, the henchman, was talking about executing 24 people on that night but Dr. Yazdi had opposed him. Khomeini had sided with Yazdi.
They had arrested more than 50-60 top officials of the Shah’s regime and were about to execute all of them one by one.
While the mullahs were finding new ruling positions for themselves in the new regime, Dr. Bakhtiar had already left the country and people were talking about hisarrest and release by the order of Mehdi Bazargan.
Dr. Abdulkarim Lahiji:
I was at the time working at the army’s court of justice and defending those who had been arrested during the ant-government demonstrations.
Iran’s Bar Association had been talking to the government officials with a view tofree all political prisoners and the government had agreed to consider it.
There was chaos in Iran’s justice system after the revolution and many innocent people had been arrested and executed. I can say the Iranian society had lost its mind due to the hatred of the former regime and justice meant nothing to them.
