Behind the Headlines/June 26, 2018

In tonight’s program of Behind the Headlines:

As anti-regime street protests continue in the grand bazaars of Iran, we ask our guests Mohammad Nourizad and Navid Jamshidi if the Rouhani government is solely responsible for the economic crisis and what role Iran’s foreign policy has played in it.

Also, why all officials of the regime claim that if they are overthrown Iran will no longer exist.

And how widespread is the current anti-government protests.

Navid Jamshidi:

The root of most of Iran’s problems is economic. The regime has finally taken it seriously and is concerned about its future. I believe even with the current limitations in our resources and remaining wealth, we can still come out of the current crisis if our foreign policy is put right and we have better relations with world powers and our neighbours. The current social and economic problems of Iran require a national solution whereby every Iranian must play a role in it.

Jamshid Chalangi:

But would this regime allow this to happen?

Mohammad Nourizad:

My answer is a NO. However, the international pressure will force the regime’s officials to accept it. Just like playing football when the players will concede a goal at the 90th minute. All we are saying to this regime is do not take to that 11th hours and do something about the country before too late. At least think about your own survival.

The problem is that our people’s worries and concerns are one thing and those of Mr. Zarif’s are something else.

Jamshid Chalangi:

Rumor has it in Washington that the Iranian regime has accepted all of America’s conditions privately but doe not want it to make it public. However US has not accepted this demand and believes the regime is trying to buy time. What do you think?

Navid Jamshidi:

The economic problem of Iran is more to do with the government’s ill-advised domestic and foreign policies, than the US sanctions.

I believe we have to open the doors of the country to anyone who wants to save it, regardless of their political or ideological tendencies. This is the only way that our country can stand on its feet again. However, at this moment of time we only have the absolute rule of a minority who are not even elected by the nation to rule over them.

Mohammad Nourizad:

I wonder where the Revolutionary Guards are hiding these days? Where are they when for years they have put their finger in every pie in the country?

This leads me to think that they are behind the scene plotting to remove the Rouhani government.

The biggest problem of our country is the Hezbollah of Lebanon. I call upon Mr. Khamenei to have the honour of diverting the billions of dollars that he spends on his foreign adventures to meet the dire economic needs of our people. If he has any sense of integrity left in him.
