In tonight’s program of Behind the Headlines:
* Another Quds Day in Iran, but how important is the Palestinian question among the Iranians?
* Who benefits from the recent comments by ayatollah Khamenei and other Iranian top officials?
* The G7 summit gets underway in Canada, as the Iran question is among the top issues discussed by the leaders of the free world.
* What is Hassan Rouhani’s aim by attending the Shanghai Conference?
Our guests to discuss these topics tonight are Dr. Ali Nourizadeh and speaking to us from Tehran Navid Jamshidi.
Dr. Ali Nourizadeh:
When Khomeini named the last Friday of Ramadan as the Quds Day the regime was not so isolated and unpopular in Iran and the region.
Today the question of Palestine is a political ploy by the regime and a pretext for its devastating domestic and foreign policies. As the late Palestinian leader Abu Mazen had once said the regimes like the one in Iran have done more injustice and damage to the Palestinian cause than Israel.
The Iranian regime is asking the hungry and impoverished Iranian workers who have not received their wages for the last six month to rally in support of the Palestinians, while Khamenei sends millions of dollars of the same workers’ money to Gaza to provide Iftar for its population.
The truth is that in the minds of the Iranian people the question of the Palestinian cause has been eroded and they condemn the regime’s financial and military support for the two terrorist groups that supposedly represent them.
Navid Jamshidi:
Today’s rallies saw the repetition of the same old slogans of death to America and England and Israel and the national broadcasting covered it all day to grandstand the occasion.
However, the Iranian society is not going thorough a normal period and these slogans only add to the spread of violence and instability in the country.
Dr. Ali Nourizadeh:
The Iranian regime has sowed the seeds of hatred and violence since its inception and has never heralded humanity and kindness and its message to the outside world is synonym with death and destruction.
Navid Jamshidi:
It is hard to quantify the amount of funds that the Iranian regime has wasted on its foreign adventures, as most of the monies have been handed in secret and through money laundering y the Revolutionary Guard.
While our own people are suffering from water shortage, unemployment and poverty the Guards are abusing the people’s wealth for their external military operations in Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen and Syria.
The Iranian people have lost all their trust in the leadership of the regime, and the top officials of the regime are only talking to themselves when they utter these slogans on the Quds Day.
