Us & Them: An Evening with Bahiyyih Nakhjavani and Omid Djalili

Bahiyyih Nakhjavani

Join international bestselling author Bahiyyih Nakhjavani in conversation with author and comedian Omid Djalili for the launch of her new novel, Us & Them.

Bahiyyih Nakhjavani, the author of The Saddlebag, Paper, and The Woman Who Read Too Much, returns with her new book Us & Them, a poignant satire told through fragmented lives, that explores the ludicrous and the tragic, the venal and the generous-hearted aspects of Iranian life away from home.

Bahiyyah has written:

“Us & Them tells the story of an old Iranian woman who finds herself ping-ponging back and forth between her two daughters, one in Paris and the other in LA . . . [and] although the story very strongly reflects the Persian psyche, it actually captures the tensions and conflicts, the tragedies and comedies that any migrant community has to face, anywhere.”

It also highlights how ‘we’ can become ‘them’ at any moment, for our true exile is alienation from others. Acclaimed author BahiyyihNakhjavani offers a poignant satire about migration, one of the vital issues of our times. Discussing her novel as well as Iranian life and literature more generally, Bahiyyih is joined this evening by comedian, actor and producer, Omid Djalili.
